CroMSIC – Croatian Medical Students’ International Committee is a non-governmental and non-profit association of medical students in the Republic of Croatia. Since 1992, it has been one of the 130 full members of the IFMSA – the International Federation of Medical Student Associations, which has over a million members worldwide.

The Association has the following goals:

  • promotion of humane ideas, ethical principles and human rights and contribution to the education of medical students
  • popularising all forms of health education for wider population
  • additional education of medical students through the international exchange of medical students, and
  • conducting other permitted activities necessary for the achievement of the Association's goals, primarily in the field of human healthcare.

The Association is divided into 6 committees with the purpose of easier work. Each of the committees has a specific goal that the students strive to achieve through their work, with the common goal of ensuring a higher level of healthcare for people:

  • Standing Committee on Research Exchange, SCORE
  • Standing Committee on Professional Exchange, SCOPE
  • Standing Committee on Public Health, SCOPH
  • Standing Committee on Human Rights and Peace, SCORP
  • Standing Committee on Sexual & Reproductive Health and Rights including HIV & AIDS, SCORA
  • Standing Committee on Medical Education, SCOME

Learning and acquiring qualitative and quantitative knowledge within the framework of continuous and permanent education is very important in all fields, especially in the field of medicine, because it represents the foundation of a healthy individual and social community that will bring progress to both the individual and the entire society.

It is very important, even crucial, that what we learn represents both a great pleasure and a challenge, all with the aim of helping the individual and the entire society. The activities and work of the above CroMSIC Committees are aligned with those foundations. It is visible in the above, in the prevention and education of the population and medical students about public health issues that greatly contribute to the improvement of health, and thus a healthy society.

In addition, we have an excellent cooperation with institutions outside medical faculties and healthcare: cities, counties, institutions, organisations, various associations and societies at the state level, as well as at local levels.

Although the work of CroMSIC is organised by six committees, they all intertwine to provide all students with the necessary knowledge and experience in their profession, in organisation, correspondence and creating good interpersonal relations, which is a good foundation for future work in the medical profession. To be honest, working at CroMSIC requires major sacrifices with respect to free time and stressful situations, but everything pays off in the end, enriching us when our work and our knowledge are confirmed in practice.

Due to that, medical students involved in CroMSIC want to learn as much as possible both in the country and abroad, as well as to transfer this knowledge to the community, starting from local self-government to the state level, even abroad. This serves as an incentive for further challenges.

For these reasons, the views and achievements of CroMSIC members are enriched through an exchange of experiences and knowledge: twice a year at the General Assembly – the International Annual Assembly of IFMSA in one of the 130 member countries, once a year at the Assembly of the European Region of IFMSA (IFMSA European Regional Meeting, EuRegMe) and at numerous smaller events that deal more closely with topics of interest to individual Committees.
