Postgraduate doctoral study of Biomedicine and Health
The Postgraduate doctoral study of Biomedicine and Health represents the highest level of education in the cycle of educating scientists for scientific research in the scientific area of biomedicine and health. It serves as the basis for future academic, scientific and or scientific/teaching career.

Requirements and criteria for selection of candidates for enrolment in the first year of the Postgraduate doctoral study of Biomedicine and Health are determined by the study programme. The enrolment of students in the Postgraduate doctoral study of Biomedicine and Health is based on a classification procedure. The issuing of a public invitation for application for the study, the classification procedure and the enrolment of students are performed in accordance with the Statute of Josip Juraj Strossmayer University and of the Faculty of Medicine Osijek, with the Regulation on Studies and Studying at Josip Juraj Strossmayer University and the Rules for organising the Postgraduate doctoral study of Biomedicine and Health.
Candidates acquire the right to enrol based on their score in the classification procedure. The candidates for the Postgraduate doctoral study of Biomedicine and Health who meet the requirements for enrolment will be selected in the classification procedure based on the following criteria: success in the graduate study, demonstration of results and motivation for scientific research, with additional points for medical specialisation and master's thesis. Each of these criteria will be awarded a certain number of points based on several elements given in Table 1 of the Rules for organising the Postgraduate doctoral study of Biomedicine and Health. The applications and the candidate's meeting of the requirements for enrolment in the doctoral study are evaluated by the Commission for postgraduate studies.
In accordance with the Act, the Statute and the recommendations of the Rector's Conference, the full-time Postgraduate doctoral study of Biomedicine and Health lasts for at least 3 years or 6 semesters, while the part-time study generally lasts at least 5 years or 10 semesters.
The study is organised in two forms
The total score of ECTS credits for this study programme is 180 ECTS credits.
Upon completion of the study, one acquires the academic title of Doctor of Science in the field of Biomedicine and Health and the relevant scientific fields.
Knowledge, understanding and skills:
Demonstrating of systematic knowledge, understanding and mastering of contemporary methodology, techniques and skills specific for the scientific discipline of biomedicine and health, the field and branch in which one is active,
Demonstrating creativity and originality in interpretation of knowledge in the scientific discipline of biomedicine and health, the field and branch in which one is active.
Application of knowledge and understanding:
Ability to conduct research and apply skills to create new concepts, hypotheses and projects that will generate new knowledge and/or result in its implementation in the discipline of biomedicine and health, the field and branch in which one is active,
Ability to apply knowledge, understanding and research in order to contribute to the overall body of knowledge, which is verified by publishing in reputable national and international publications in the discipline in which one is active.
Making conclusions, judgements and decisions:
Ability of open-minded, objective and critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis of new and complex scientific ideas and results, whether one's own or other people's,
Ability to judge and make decisions regarding complex issues which involve relevant scientific, ethical and social responsibility.
Presentation and communication:
Ability to present one's own ideas, thoughts, concepts and results, as well as clarity and efficacy in communicating the results of one's research to the scientific, professional and general public.
Learning
Ability of continuous/life-long advancement in theoretical and practical, methodological sense, in the discipline of biomedicine and health, the field and branch in which one is active,
Ability to prove the quality and skill required for employment and self-employment.
