BIP Intensive Course on Clinical Skills and Simulation-Based Learning for Pregraduate Medical Students (Maribor, Slovenia - June 16 -20, 2025)
We will conduct an intensive course on clinical skills and simulation-based learning at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Maribor. The course will take place in a state-of-the-art simulation center and clinical skills laboratory. It is designed to provide medical students in their clinical years with practical training in essential clinical skills, which are crucial for working in a clinical setting. Under the guidance of experienced mentors, participants will gain hands-on experience in performing both basic and advanced clinical procedures, such as history taking, conducting thorough physical examinations, and performing key medical interventions. These include venous and arterial blood sampling, urinary catheter placement, and bedside ultrasound usage. Additionally, students will deepen their knowledge of laboratory test interpretation, including blood analysis, urinalysis, ECG, and chest X-ray interpretation. A special focus will be placed on critically ill patient management simulation. In a realistic simulation environment, participants will experience the complexity and dynamics of emergencies, learning to react quickly and effectively—a skill essential for their future medical careers. Each practical session will be followed by in-depth expert discussions, during which students, under mentorship, will analyse the performed procedures, identify potential challenges, and discuss possible improvements. This interactive learning approach ensures a deeper understanding and reinforcement of acquired skills while also fostering critical thinking and professional growth. This course presents a unique opportunity for medical students who wish to enhance their theoretical knowledge with intensive practical training in a safe and supportive learning environment.
